Having grown up in southwest Louisiana, I was never far from the wonderful natural areas that the Louisiana and Texas Gulf Coast had to offer. I grew up hunting and fishing with my dad and was taught early on to always respect and appreciate nature. Over time, the desire to hunt has been replaced with the desire to share what I see in nature with others. I attempt to do this through photography, hunting only with a camera and lens. I now live in Kingwood, TX and use it as a hub for traveling to the many easily accessible shooting locations in this region. I am lucky, as my wife (and best friend) shares my passion for the natural world where she spends time with me whenever she can.
I have been an avid photographer since 2001. I try to include images from most areas of nature, though my passion is bird photography. I look closely at wildlife and how it relates to the environment around it. There is always beauty to be found in the natural world and I strive to capture it with my own perspective. I try to learn as much as I can about the subjects I photograph, as only through an intimate knowledge of the subject can I convey the experience that is nature.
I learn more about photography each and every trip into the field and have aspired to become respected by those who embrace and appreciate the natural world. I am a member of NANPA (North American Nature Photography Association), Nature Photograhpers Network and serve as the Texas Regional Forum Moderator for NSN (Naturescapes.net), where I can exchange ideas, critique images, and have my images critiqued by some of the most talented and diverse nature photographers to be found on the web.
My images have appeared in publications such as National Geographic Society’s "Birding Essentials", "Birds of North America" (Dorling Kindersley Publishing), Birder's World magazine, ABA Birding magazine, Texas Highways magazine, AAA Texas magazine, AAA New Mexico magazine, Texas Sporting Journal, The Houston Press, Houston Audubon Newsletters and Annual Reports, Houston Audubon website, Gulf Coast Bird Observatory Sourcebook, and other state and local conservation newsletters and sites.
I currently use the Canon system which includes the Canon 1D MkIIN & 50D DSLR's (digital SLR). I use an assortment of lenses from Canon, Sigma, and Tokina for close-up, wide angle, and telephoto work. This setup includes a Gitzo1325 tripod with either a Wimberley Head II or Really Right Sutff BH-55 head, depending on the need.
Along with future updates to the images on the site, I plan to add information about the locations, equipment, and techniques used to create my images. Feel free to contact me if you have a photography related question or any input on the design or content of this site.
Let's hope it gets good ones soon!
