Having grown up in southwest Louisiana, I was
never far from the wonderful natural areas that the Louisiana gulf coast had to
offer. I grew up hunting and fishing with my dad and was taught early on to
always respect and appreciate nature. Over time, the desire to hunt has been
replaced with the desire to share what I see in nature with others. I attempt to
do this through photography and now hunt only with a camera and lens. I have
since relocated to Houston, TX and use it as a hub for traveling to the many
easily accessible shooting locations in this region and around the country.
I have been an avid photographer since 2001 and have had images published since
early 2003. While I try to include images from most areas of nature, my passion
is bird photography. This came to be about a year ago when I began to look
closer at birds and how they relate to their environment. There is always beauty
to be found in the avian world and I strive to capture it with my own
perspective. I try to learn as much as I can about the subjects I photograph; as
only through an intimate knowledge of the subject can I convey the experience
that is nature.
I learn more about photography each and every trip into the field and aspire to
become respected by those that embrace and appreciate the natural world. I am a
member of NANPA (North American Nature
Photography Association), Nature
Photographers Network and serve as the Texas Regional Forum Moderator for
Naturescapes.net, where I can exchange
ideas, critique images, and have my images critiqued by some of the most
talented and diverse nature photographers to be found on the web.
Publications include National Geographic's "Birding Essentials", "Birds of North
America" (Dorling Kindersley Publishing), Birder's World magazine, ABA Birding
magazine, Texas Highways magazine, AAA Texas magazine, AAA New Mexico magazine,
Texas Sporting Journal, The Houston Press, Houston Audubon Newsletters and
Annual Reports, Houston Audubon website, Gulf Coast Bird Observatory Sourcebook,
and many state and local conservation newsletters and sites.
I use Canon bodies which include the Canon 1D MkIIN & 40D DSLR's (digital SLR).
I use an assortment of lenses from Canon and Sigma for close-up and telephoto
work. This setup is typically shot on a Gitzo1325 tripod with a
Wimberley Head II.
Along with future updates the images on the site, I plan to add information
about the equipment, techniques, and locations used to create my images. Feel
free to email me if you have any input on the design or content of this site.
